Scottish Tech Startup Awards 2019
Startup of the Year
This award recognises the Scottish technology business that has shown outstanding achievement in product and commercial development, and exciting potential for future growth.
WHAT THE JUDGES ARE LOOKING FOR:
Product innovation (30%): does the company articulate a clear and distinct product vision? Are they developing novel technology, and a product that effectively solves a tangible problem for their customers?
Disruptive potential (30%): does the company have the potential to have a significant impact on an existing market, or to create an entirely new category? Are they well-positioned to take advantage of the market opportunity, and do they appear to have a cogent strategy to do so?
Exciting growth (20%): is the company showing impressive growth potential, whether in terms of customer adoption, revenue, or major accounts/deployments?
Ecosystem impact (20%): has the company built the right team, and are they having a positive economic and social impact in the Scottish startup ecosystem?
The Scottish Tech Startup Awards recognise companies building and deploying technology — whether software or hardware — to disrupt existing industries or forge new markets.
Defining startups is a tricky business; we’re using a broad definition of ‘startup’. Eligible companies will generally meet at least two of the following criteria:
They have been operating for fewer than than 10 years
They have less than £10m in annual revenue
They have raised less than £10m in investment capital
They have fewer than 100 employees
The Awards are only open to companies and individuals who are primarily based in Scotland — for individuals, this means ordinarily resident and primarily working in Scotland; for companies and organisations, this means headquartered in Scotland.
